16-year-old arrested; deliberate shooting with explosives at Berkeley High, police say

BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass college taking pictures that might have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive College, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful system materials and threatening to commit against the law which is able to end in death or nice bodily damage.

Police said they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a capturing that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley High College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they found components to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital items that could possibly be used to create extra weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"School security remains a high priority for the division," police stated in a press release. 

Particulars on whom the teen was trying to recruit were not disclosed. Police said this case stays under investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the varsity's group that the district was in close contact with police during this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon components, the district relied on police experience to assess any potential ongoing risk to its colleges. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this era, we alerted our administrative and safety staff about this investigation and, as is our commonplace observe, maintained close contact with our BPD College Resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive School campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation period, we had been assured that this individual did not pose a direct threat to the Berkeley Excessive School community."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion in opposition to the coed. 

In addition, a city hall assembly titled: 'Find out how to Discuss to Children About Faculty Violence' provided by Alameda County Office of Schooling is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
