Florida fifth grader arrested, charged with threatening a mass capturing, police say

A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass capturing, authorities mentioned.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office mentioned it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening text message" sent by a scholar at an elementary faculty.

It mentioned its native school risk enforcement team was immediately notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written threat to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's workplace mentioned.

In video shared by authorities, the boy might be seen being led right into a police vehicle.

“This scholar’s behavior is sickening, particularly after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in an announcement, noting that the menace came simply days after the deadly faculty capturing at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two academics lifeless.

“Proper now will not be the time to behave like a little delinquent. It’s not funny,” he stated. “This baby made a pretend risk, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”

Marceno said his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.

The comment came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 faculty taking pictures after it came to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup instead of instantly shifting in on the gunman.
