Mother or father with hid weapon accidentally shoots self while at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The school had early launch and students were released on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In line with police, the parent, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The school district stated White was inside the building, near the lobby space, and not within the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials mentioned there was no menace made and the mum or dad didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or staff were injured. The mum or dad was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass school shooting, there have been five cases in North Texas associated to weapons brought to colleges or threats made.

Arlington mother and father mentioned their minds immediately thought of the worst after they have been notified.

No mother or father ever wants there to be a purpose for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help but assume the worst after they do.

"When I acquired the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I used to be shocked," parent Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most times, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that figuring out what happened earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our trainer received a notification on their cellphone saying someone was within the building," he stated.

Guns are usually not allowed on faculty property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with said even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to occur, however you never wish to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his faculty.

"If something occurred, you’ve bought to run anywhere that’s secure and hide," she informed her youngster.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned something needs to be executed now. 

"They wish to speak about it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to truly cross any laws and do anything," he added.
