Later that month, on Aug. 18, Barini met her last known victim, Andrea Zamperoni — a chef for the high-end restaurant chain Cipriani — inside an Elmhurst, Queens, motel room, the place she drugged him with gamma-butyrolactone, generally referred to as a “date rape” drug. The person died shortly afterward.

The kitchen workers mourned the loss, Dallorso told the Times.

“Everyone within the kitchen right now could be heartbroken, from the dishwasher to the chef,” Dallorso said.
