Students walk out of colleges in protest of gun violence

Days after a minimum of 19 elementary college college students and two academics had been killed in a mass taking pictures at an elementary college in Uvalde, Texas, college students at schools around the nation staged walkouts to protest gun violence.

In Michigan, college students at Oxford Excessive Faculty, where a faculty shooting occurred in November, staged a walkout at 12 p.m. on Thursday. Four college students have been killed within the taking pictures.

Students at Saugus High Faculty in Santa Clarita, California, also walked out of class, in support of the national gun safety movement. The varsity was the site of a capturing in November 2019, wherein two students have been killed.

Emma Janoff, an 11th grader at Schreiber and a member of 'Students Demand Motion', a nationwide group against gun violence, says she received lively on gun control policy and college safety following the 2018 Parkland Excessive Faculty shooting.

"You see information every single day about kids getting shot and folks your age dying and it is simply incredibly sad and unbelievable, especially to see like children younger and youngsters my age," Janoff informed ABC Information. "I cant imagine that being me; however it is possible as a result of it happens so usually."

The 17 year-old says her college's administration was in support of the walkout and she hopes the over 200 planned demonstrations across the country send a transparent message that students are a "united front."

A walkout might not necessarily change legislation, Janoff said, but these actions show "students are still united on this."

She said that though most college students aren't old enough to vote, they still want to see change and are willing to take measures to have their voices heard in politics.

"Students do not should be quiet about it simply because they're a kid," Janoff mentioned.
