Father or mother with hid weapon accidentally shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students had been launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the mum or dad, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His injury was not severe.

The school district mentioned White was inside the constructing, near the foyer space, and not within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers said there was no threat made and the dad or mum did not have "malicious intent."

No students or staff were injured. The mum or dad was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty capturing, there have been 5 circumstances in North Texas associated to guns introduced to schools or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds immediately considered the worst after they were notified.

No dad or mum ever wants there to be a reason for them to get a textual content message saying their child's college is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't assist but assume the worst after they do.

"After I received the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I was shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed stated.

While most instances, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that realizing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher obtained a notification on their phone saying somebody was within the constructing," he said.

Weapons usually are not allowed on college property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with stated even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to school, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you never want to be the one statistic. What if it is your kids?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington faculty and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a school capturing, my heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his college.

"If something happened, you’ve received to run anywhere that’s secure and conceal," she informed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing must be finished now. 

"They need to talk about it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to really pass any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
