Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mum or dad in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The school had early launch and college students were launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In line with police, the guardian, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not serious.

The school district mentioned White was inside the constructing, near the foyer area, and never in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officials said there was no menace made and the parent did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or employees were injured. The father or mother was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass faculty shooting, there have been five instances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington mother and father mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst after they were notified.

No parent ever desires there to be a purpose for them to get a textual content message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's lethal capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot help but assume the worst after they do.

"Once I received the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I was shocked," parent Karima Rasheed stated.

While most instances, lockdowns are solely drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our instructor obtained a notification on their telephone saying someone was within the constructing," he stated.

Weapons will not be allowed on school property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply terrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to school, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to happen, but you by no means need to be the one statistic. What if it is your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington faculty and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.

"If one thing happened, you’ve got to run anyplace that’s secure and conceal," she told her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be executed now. 

"They wish to speak about it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to actually go any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
