Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Read’ marketing campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's a subject that is taken hold in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Stroll Two Moons" have been pulled from shelves.

While those books might be banned from some colleges, there may be still somewhere else you can find them.

"Our job is simply to ensure that if you would like it, it's right here for you," said Public Information Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out right now," mentioned Brown. "So we got more copies on order but as soon as word received round about what happened in McMinn County, we received a variety of holds."

These are just a number of the two million different supplies at the Nashville Public Library.

"A lot of people don't need to learn these books; they don't want their children to need to learn these books, or forced to learn these books, and that's nice," stated Brown. "But there are lots individuals who do, and we wish to be there for the individuals who do wish to read these supplies."

And if you want to make your love for these materials known, what better approach than together with your library card? The 5,000 restricted version cards for the marketing campaign say "I learn banned books."

"We all watch the TV reveals that we like; we all watch the completely different sports or root for the totally different teams we're part of," mentioned Brown. "Books are not any completely different."

The purpose is to get the 5,000 library cards in the fingers of recent sign-ups this month.

"We are not making an attempt to be a push again — a power pushing back towards these choices — we wish to be an alternative choice to say, in the event you could not be capable to get it there... you will get it here," mentioned Brown.
