A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to hold out a mass shooting, authorities stated.
In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace stated it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a scholar at an elementary college.
It mentioned its local college threat enforcement team was immediately notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written threat to conduct a mass taking pictures," the sheriff's office stated.
In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led right into a police car.
“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a statement, noting that the threat came just days after the deadly faculty taking pictures at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two academics lifeless.
“Proper now just isn't the time to act like slightly delinquent. It’s not funny,” he stated. “This little one made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Could 24 college shooting after it came to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup as an alternative of immediately transferring in on the gunman.
