Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech big said its iconic music participant has been changed by other devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "Today, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have integrated an unimaginable music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there is no higher option to take pleasure in, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the first MP3 player that could maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music player that permits you to put your complete music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again."

Related MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the identical success as the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 variations of its music participant - the Basic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range in recent years, with cell phone know-how enabling customers to hearken to music providers on their telephones.

In 2014, the traditional click on wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano have been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod contact was the only model still on sale right this moment.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in keeping with its inventor Tony Fadell.
